The Different Types of Shipping Containers

Types of Shipping Containers

As shipping container suppliers, at True Blue Containers we know the right container size and design has a positive impact on business performance.

The basics

The most common shipping containers are 20’ or 40’ long, and referred to as standard containers, standing at a height of 8’6.

Those who need more height can choose the 9’6 version, offering you an extra foot vertically, known as a high cube container.

For those in need of bigger containers, we have numerous longer container options. A member of our expert team can help you decide on a suitable size.

Sizing down

For those in need of smaller rather than larger containers, we carry 10’ containers, half the size of a standard 20’ design.

Below that is the 8’ mini sea cube container, with top and bottom sidewall vents and an internal emergency safety door release.

If it’s container height and not length you want reduced, a half-height container could be worth considering.

Temperature

Is temperature control required for transporting or storing perishables? You’ll be looking at a container that includes a refrigeration unit.

Don’t need refrigeration but want to maintain a relatively even temperature range for your cargo? An insulated container could be called for.

Flat rack

The more open containers used when freight won’t fit standard containers, available in in 20’ and 40’ options. Great for heavy and bulky loads with awkward dimensions.

Choose one with collapsible side walls, or a fixed end flat rack where the two smaller walls are in place. Whatever your cargo requirements, we’ll sort out a cost-effective solution.

Side opening

These shipping containers open on the side.

Note that flat rack and side door are different designs. Flat rack containers ship with one or more open sides. Once the cargo is loaded, side door shipping containers close for transit.

Open top

Opening from the top, the 20’ or 40’ containers load from above, with the option of a tarpaulin cover. Popular for oversized cargo.

Dangerous goods

Plan to ship or store hazardous substances? These containers are custom built and compliant to AS1940-2004.

Modifications and customisations

Certain industries require modifications to make the containers more effective for cargo storage. We excel at modified shipping containers, as well as container conversion.

Our team includes accredited engineers, and our work meets national regulations.

Sourcing for you

While these are popular containers, your business may have specific needs other container categories can meet.

For example, you could require liquid, gas, or chemical transport containers. At other times, cargo weight is an issue, and a bulk-focused container is necessary.

Do you prioritise eco-aware details like solar panels and “green” materials? Are preferred technologies focusing on container security a selling point?

Our team can help address the logistics. If a less common shipping container fits the bill, know that we have the reputation and contacts to source it.
